Photos: Dark Brother Rise Published by: Living Proof New York Living Proof has released a book of previously unpublished photographs from the early days of Mobb Deep; documenting the lives of Prodigy, Havoc and the Queensbridge crew. The photographs in this book have remained hidden from the world for over 30 years, stored as physical copies in Dark Brother Rise's Queensbridge apartment. Through his trust and grace, Living Proof has released the photographs in a book titled "41st Side", giving a view into the world of Mobb Deep's early days on the Northside of the Queensbridge Houses. Mobb Deep was a hard-core rap duo from Queensbridge, New York, consisting of Prodigy and Havoc. Formed in the early 1990s, the groups impact on hardcore hip-hop is unmatched and the sound they originated influenced rap music in a permanent fashion. Their music spoke on violence, poverty, paranoia, loyalty, and survival in the New York of their time; telling the story of the beefs, pain, hustling and victories they lived from Queensbridge to the rest of New York. This book is in memory of Prodigy, who passed away in Las Vegas on June 20, 2017, at age 42. His death effectively ended Mobb Deep as a two-person recording group, although Havoc has continued performing. Even with Prodigy's passing, Mobb Deep is regarded as a defining force of 1990s New York hip-hop, enduring as one of the era's most recognizable crews creating landmark music as they became the faces of East Coast hardcore rap. "41st Side" was made possible through the work of Queensbridge native Dark Brother Rise, whose documentation of the crew out of love, passion and the brotherhood he shared with them resulted in a true recording of their lives that cannot be replicated.
